Sean Coxen has signed a new long-term contract with Pelicans FC.

The US born striker and utility player signed for Screaming Pelicans FC after coming through the youth ranks at Brown University and has subsequently had loan spells on the Pelicans FC coed side. The 30+ year-old made his Pelicans FC debut in the summer of 2008, bursting onto the scene.

Manager Steve Cantonis said: "We’re delighted that Sean Coxen has signed a new long-term contract with the Club. Sean is a fantastic talent and we have already seen glimpses of this during his coed performances."

He added: "Let’s remember, he is still 30+ years old, so there is still a huge amount to come from this young lad!"

"We have invested a lot of time in Sean, as we put him in the coed side for two seasons to get some good experience."

"Now he’s back with the Pelicans FC mens side, we’re working hard with him every day and he is a very exciting player. We’re looking forward to seeing Sean score many goals and dominate for a long time to come."

Sean said: "I’m very happy to sign a new contract and I’m very excited to be spending more years with Pelicans Football Club.

"I just want to work hard and help this great club win trophies. I want to stay here for a long time and it’s a great responsibility. I will keep working hard to show the club and all the fans why I’m here."

Match Report: P'cheen vs Sting Black

Posted by Ryan Costigan at Dec 9, 2009 8:58AM PST ( 0 Comments )

It was a great day to play – A little chilly, but dry, perfect for footie. P’cheen was at the beloved confines of ACC again, looking to snap a 2 game losing streak. P’cheen came out ready to play, and play well we did…in the first 15 minutes. P’cheen faced off against Sting Black, currently atop the leaderboard of D3’s White Division. P’cheen set a great tone to the game, controling possession through the midfield. We were able to distribute up top and stymie the oppositions efforts with solid defensive takeaways. We were communicating and playing positive.

This all changed after a momentary lapse of reason…3 lapses to be exact. With some touches gone awry and some questionable neglected offside calls, Sting was able to score 3 in a matter of 10 minutes. The last goal saw a defender go untouched for a 40 yard run to finish it past Kendall, puting Sting up 3 nil at half. Despite being down by a considerable deficit, P’cheen came out positive and again, set a good tone.

However, things would take a turn for the worse. Due to the ref’s need to be the center of attention and P’cheen players’ frustration, 5 minutes in, P’cheen was down to 10. 10 minutes later, we would go down another man. As a Sting player was whistled for handball, James Holder couldn’t stop his momentum and ran into the player, knocking both to the groud…a complete accident that as unavoidable. Despite the players’(on both teams) plea to the ref, he issued James’ 2nd yellow of the day, and P’cheen was down to 9.

The rest is history, as Sting would have no problem putting in 3 more. Despite being down to 9, I think P’cheen showed serious moxie and drive. We worked the ball considerably well and created more opportunities short handed than we had with a full 11. Let’s try to work off that half for this Sunday gents. We are facing a team with almost an identical record and statsheet, so let’s break this streak and take it to em.

-Ryan

It was a beautiful day out at ACC this past Sunday (thanks to Ryan for his praying efforts and reserved behavior the night before). The sun was bright, field a little soggy, and the air a perfect 70 degrees. Chuck even had to bust out the Marine issue querilla hat due to the sun’s intense rays. P’cheen Pelicans FC were at home to take on the Buckeye Silverbacks. The game started out somewhat even, but it was clear that the Pelicans would be able to control possession for most of the game. We did suffer a few lapses in possession about 20 min into the 1st half, and paid for it. Unfortunately, both lapses resulted in goals for the opposition. One due to the sweeper’s (ahem) "perfect" tackle attempt right outside the box. Down 2 nil at half the Pelicans made some lineup changes. We dominated possession even more in the 2nd half. Mike Lamond came in for the super sub moment and scored on a beautiful one-touch rebound from 16 yards out – far post, upper 90, side netting…rockstar. Due to a sense of euphoria, Pelicans had another lapse (and only one in 2nd half) and the Buckeyes capitalized, putting the Pelicans down 3-1. The Buckeyes efficient attack, coupled with the Pelican’s finishing woes, kept the final at 3-1. I personally thought we played our best match, in terms of collective pace control. Let’s keep the momentum in that sense and come out ready to shake the net.
